ARCspace

Gwaltney Fleming, Inc., a Richmond-based architectural, interior design and general contracting firm, has renovated—at no cost—key areas of the Greater Richmond ARC’s headquarters on Westwood Avenue on Richmond’s north side. These include the organization’s lobby and Infant and Child Development Services (ICDS) offices. In addition, Gwaltney Fleming has enlisted the pro bono support of several generous area contractors including:

Acorn Sign Graphics
Atlas Carpet
Armstrong Ceiling Systems
B&L Floorcovering
Benjamin Moore
Capital Interiors
Citywide Decorators
Custom Framing Made Simple
Diversity Corporation
Dominion Interior Supply Co.

Eck Supply Company
Hix Heating & Air Conditioning

JL Minter Electrical Contractor, Inc.

MP Barden & Sons, Inc.
Mohawk Carpets
Patcraft Commercial Carpet

Sherwin Williams

ARC is very grateful to the companies and their staffs for their guidance, hard work and support. Without their generosity, the renovation project would never have become a reality.

Infant and Child Development Services Director Lisa Cox and Gwaltney Fleming’s Asli Uluaydin hold samples of carpet and tile used in the ARCspace  lobby and ICDS renovation project.

The Goal
The goal with the ARCspace project is to provide a friendly, supportive atmosphere for both children and their families, many of whom are working for the first time with a development disability. ICDS, one of four core service areas of the Greater Richmond ARC, provided specialized services for approximately 370 children and their families in 2005.

Brendan Fleming, the firm’s owner, is especially sensitive to the needs of children and their families: her firm was recently honored by Working Mother magazine as one of the 25 best small companies in the U.S. to work for. The selection was based, in part, on the firm’s family-focused workplace environment – a value she is bringing to ARC in the new space plans. Gwaltney Fleming’s proposed ARCspace plans call for better space utilization, direct travel paths, and more efficient work areas.
