The Greater Richmond ARC’s Infant and Child Development Services (ICDS) provides specialized rehabilitation services designed for children from birth through adolescence who are at risk for developmental delays, have delays in development, have a developmental disability, or suffer from an injury that adversely affects development.

On-site at ARC or off-site in the children’s homes or other community settings, ICDS staff assists each family to become more confident in caring for their special needs children, while helping each child meet his or her individual potential. Our specialized services staff consists of pediatric occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech & language pathologists, early childhood special educators and social workers.

Working with our team of ICDS experts, families will develop goals and learn techniques that are tailored to the unique needs of their child and the family as a whole.

ICDS supports children with special needs and their families so they can:

Develop gross motor, fine motor, communication, social and problem-solving skills

Participate with other children to enjoy typical childhood experiences

Enjoy a variety of home and community activities

Through partnerships with families, physicians and other community programs, ICDS supports children and families to reach their potential.

Specialized Services

Specialized services enhance developmental assessments and individual treatment plans in the areas of:

Sensory integration

Pediatric feeding programs

Adaptive equipment assessments

Developmental play groups

Individual treatment sessions

Services can be arranged in a variety of settings that are best for the children and their families – at our center, in families’ homes or in other community sites.

Costs and Payment Options

For children under age three, ICDS offers early intervention evaluations and case management at no cost to families

For all children, the program accepts Medicaid and third-party health insurance

ICDS scholarships may also be available to offset tuition costs through ARC’s annual Ladybug fundraising events. To learn more – download press release (PDF).
